Judo
The Olympic grappling art of throws, takedowns and control, taught on the mat.

The discipline
THROWS.
CONTROL.
TIMING.
Judo is built around throws, takedowns and controlling an opponent on the ground. It came from Japanese jujutsu and became an Olympic sport, but the everyday value is simpler: you learn how to move a person, how to fall safely and how to stay composed in a clinch.
At Switch Fitness, Judo sits alongside Jiu Jitsu and MMA as part of the gym's grappling offering. Expect plenty of partner work, breakfalls and repetition before anything gets fast.
Who it is for
- Adults who want a standing grappling art.
- Jiu Jitsu students who want better takedowns.
- MMA fighters building their clinch and throws.
- People who want a disciplined, technical workout.

Is Judo safe to start as an adult?
Training begins with breakfalls and controlled technique. Tell the coach it is your first class and follow their progression.
How is Judo different from Jiu Jitsu?
Judo places more emphasis on throws and standing control; Jiu Jitsu places more emphasis on ground control and submissions. Many students train both.
